Soft, buttery frosted sugar cookies that melt in your mouth, perfect for any occasion with customizable colors and toppings.

Ingredients

  • Unsalted Butter: 1 cup (226g), softened
  • Granulated Sugar: 1 cup (200g)
  • Egg: 1 large
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 teaspoons
  • All-Purpose Flour: 2 ¾ cups (330g)
  • Baking Powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon
  • Unsalted Butter (for frosting): ½ cup (113g), softened
  • Powdered Sugar: 2 cups (240g), sifted
  • Vanilla Extract (for frosting): 1 teaspoon
  • Milk or Cream: 2–3 tablespoons
  • Food Coloring (Optional): A few drops
  • Sprinkles: To garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until fully combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mix to the wet mix until a dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thick. Cut into shapes and place on prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are just lightly golden. Remove and cool on wire racks.
  6. While cookies cool, prepare the frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Tint with food coloring if desired.
  7. Frost each cookie generously, add sprinkles, and let them set before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough to prevent spreading and deepen flavor.
  • Don’t overbake—edges should be just lightly golden.
  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant frosting colors.
  • Store in airtight container to maintain softness.
