- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
- Stir in the boiling water carefully. The batter will be thin, which is normal.
- Fold in the chopped pecans gently, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- If making homemade caramel, prepare it while the cakes are cooling.
- Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle some chocolate chips.
- Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the process, drizzling caramel sauce and adding chocolate chips on top.
- Finish with a generous amount of caramel sauce and a sprinkle of chopped pecans for decoration.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
- This cake pairs well with vanilla ice cream.
