Ingredients
Scale
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Optional: whipped cream and chocolate shavings for topping
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
Gradually add the whole milk to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture begins to thicken and bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
Once thickened, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Stir in the vanilla extract and unsalted butter until fully melted and combined.
Pour the pudding into individual serving cups or a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
Allow the pudding to cool in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
Once chilled, you can top it with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
