Ingredients
Scale
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup whole milk
3 large eggs
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups peeled and chopped apples
1 cup caramel sauce (for filling and topping)
Whipped cream (for serving, optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
Gently fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 15 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Once cool, place one cake layer on a serving platter. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top, then place the second layer on top and drizzle more caramel on top.
Optionally, you can frost the cake with whipped cream or serve it with a dollop of whipped cream on the side.
