Apple Cider Braised Chicken Thighs is a flavorful dish that combines tender chicken with the sweetness of apple cider.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down in the skillet. Sear for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Flip and sear the other side for another 5 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Pour in the apple cider and chicken broth, stirring to combine. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  6. Add the dried thyme and apple cider vinegar, mixing well. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  7. Place the seared chicken thighs back into the skillet, skin-side up. Spoon some of the liquid over the chicken.
  8. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Let it braise for about 45 minutes, or until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.
  9. Remove the lid for the last 10 minutes of cooking to allow the sauce to reduce slightly.
  10. Once cooked, remove from heat. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
