Air Fryer Onion Boil for Crispy Edges is an incredible recipe that gives you perfectly crispy onion rings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray or oil for misting

Instructions

  1. Peeled the onions and slice them into thick rings, about ½ inch wide.
  2. Set up a breading station: In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Coat the onion rings: Dip each onion ring into the flour, shaking off any excess. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it preheat for about 5 minutes.
  5. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated onion rings in a single layer in the basket. Make sure not to overcrowd; you may need to do this in batches.
  6. Lightly mist the top of the onion rings with cooking spray to help them crisp up.
  7. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Ensure they are cooked through and have that desired crispy texture. Adjust time as needed based on your air fryer.
  9. Carefully remove the onion rings from the basket and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. This helps maintain their crispiness.
  10. If you have more onion rings, repeat the process until all are cooked.

Notes

  • Serve immediately for the best texture.
