Ingredients
Scale
10 cups day-old French bread, cubed
4 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup granulated sugar
6 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the cubed French bread and set aside.
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
Pour the wet mixture over the cubed bread. Gently fold until the bread is fully soaked. If using, add raisins or chocolate chips at this point.
Pour the bread mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 15 minutes before serving.
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth, then add the bourbon and vanilla extract. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring continuously until slightly thickened.
Drizzle the warm buttery bourbon sauce over each serving of bread pudding.
