- 2 slices of your favorite bread (white, whole grain, or sourdough)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- Optional additions: sliced tomatoes, cooked bacon, fresh herbs, or avocado
- Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese evenly over the bread.
- If desired, layer in any optional additions like tomatoes or bacon on top of the cheese. Then, add the remaining cheese on top.
- Place the second slice of bread on top, butter-side up.
- Grill the sandwich for 2-4 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown.
- Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula and grill the other side until it’s golden brown and the cheese is melted, about another 2-4 minutes.
- Once cooked, remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing.
- Cut the sandwich in half for easier handling.
